PARENT PARTICIPATION
We believe that
parents/carers are the first teachers of their children and the school
must build on the learning commenced at home.
Home/school
partnerships are encouraged as success with learning is more achievable
when teachers and parents/carers develop positive
shared
relationships.
Participation
by parents/carers is encouraged through visits to classrooms to
view progress and keep abreast
of class programs. Parents/carers are
also encouraged to make a time with the teacher to celebrate student
successes or raise any
concerns they may have.
Staff
are always happy to help wherever possible.
Participation
as a “parent/carer helper” in classrooms is also highly valued.

Ways in which
this operates varies greatly across the school, depending on the age of
the students.
All teachers
do, however, welcome extra help, particularly with activities such as
excursions.
Please see
your child’s teacher to discuss ways in which you can become involved in
your child’s classroom.
Participation
in the school is also made available through membership of the
Goulburn Street Primary School Association, the main parent/staff
body.
This
group assists the school with a range of activities including
policy/curriculum advice, fundraising, social functions and general
support.
Meetings are
held monthly, during the evening, and we encourage parents/carers to
come along –
not only does
it assist the school but also provides families with great opportunities
to develop friendships with other parents/carers.
BEFORE SCHOOL
The school is unable to accept Duty of
Care for students who arrive at school prior to 8.30am or remain in the
school grounds after 3.00pm..
Teaching staff are on site outside these
times but are involved in professional learning, meetings and planning
that prevent them from
supervising students. Parent/Carers are
therefore requested to ensure that they drop off and pick up their
children promptly each day.
Please advise the school if you are
delayed.
OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE
Lady Gowrie offer After School Hours Care
on site for students from Kinder to Year 6.
Parents interested in this service should
contact our OSHC sponsors, Lady Gowrie on 6230 6864 and ask to speak
with the Manager,
Shannon Gall.
VISITORS
All visitors, including parents/carers,
are required to call at the office to collect a visitor’s badge and sign
the On Site/Visitor’s Book,
prior to working in rooms. This
enables us to know who is on campus and importantly, in the interest of
child safety, identifies our visitors.
CANTEEN
The school provides a limited canteen
service for students, which operates under the School Canteen
Association Guidelines.
This service forms part of the Year 6
Leadership Program. The canteen is managed by the Year 5/6 unit and
operates on a daily basis
for over counter sales such as milk,
ice creams and yoghurt treats.
They also organise a lunch service on
Fridays. A variety of hot and cold foods can be ordered.
Orders are taken on Thursday (to
allow students plenty of time to order the food in ready for Friday
delivery)
A menu is sent home with the Newsletter
so that Parents/Carers are able to assist their children with selections
for lunch.
Canteen items change from time to time as
the students investigate further healthy food ideas.
SCHOOL BANKING
Students are offered the opportunity for
regular banking through the Commonwealth Bank.
The school receives a small commission for
every deposit.
Bank application forms are available from
the office.
School Banking Day is Thursday.
